Independent films going online: Directors bypassing standard distribution – by Anne Thompson
Variety – 4/13/07
Somewhere over the rainbow is a place where indie filmmakers use the Internet to sell their movies all over the world. They don't have to spend a fortune on prints and theatrical distribution; they sell their movies online directly to their target audience, and pocket a hefty cut of the revenues.

Moving Pictures Magazine – Feb/Mar 2007
Based in Silicon Valley, inDplay is an online marketplace for industry insiders to buy and sell not only new movies but other entertainment content such as TV shows and existing movies that aren't in active circulation. Think of it as a sort of eBay, but restricted to film professionals. Sitting in your home office (in your pajamas, even), a couple of mouse clicks could net you the same results as what you might find at a film market, but minus the jet lag, the overpriced hotel breakfasts and the scrambling for face-to-face meetings.

BusinessWeek – 12/11/06
How can independent filmmakers and small film libraries, whose titles are languishing unseen in storage, connect with the new venues for video that are sprouting up? The traditional methods of licensing films--attending film festivals and markets or meeting with distributors--are too expensive, exclusive, and inefficient for almost everyone but major players. Here's one possible solution: inDplay, a Silicon Valley startup backed by Google (GOOG) Chief Executive Eric Schmidt and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers venture capitalist William R. Hearst that aims to connect films with professional buyers through an online marketplace.
inDplay and the new art of film distribution – by Justin Juul
SF 360 – 11/20/06
The Redwood City-based startup inDplay is like an online dating service for the film industry. Only instead of courting one or two distributors at a time, inDplay makes it possible for a filmmaker or rights holder to seduce them all at once. Now in beta, the company issued some big news in November, when it announced that, with venture capital from William Hearst and Google CEO Eric Schmidt, they'd signed on Allied Artists International library of 20,000-plus classics and obscurities. The inDplay library already features a variety of contemporary docs and art films.

San Francisco Chronicle – 11/6/06
Allied Artists' library will be the first big library to sign up with inDplay, a deal that is expected to be announced today. The huge library not only features the Robin Williams and Ingrid Bergman films, but seven lost shows from cult actor and director John Cassavetes, and more than 20,000 other titles. The company hopes that this kind of content will come in handy, for instance, if a cable channel wanted to do a weekend of Westerns. The Allied library includes 876 Westerns, including some little-known John Wayne titles.
